Project Abstract:

How does a war change people’s lives? Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine for almost 2 years. Media’s discourse mainly focuses on the diplomatic and heroic side of the war. My film is aimed at studying the underlying pieces that aren’t obviously seen. Extending the anthropological perspectives from other academics, I’ll go back to Zdovbytsya, a town in western Ukraine where my friend, Marta Shmendel comes from so as to shoot the daily routine of the family and their neighbours at places, like school and volunteer centres to examine Ukrainian’s fear and dream. The work would be a collaborative film with Marta, a sociology master student in Münster University.
