Dara Shikoh Channa

Credentials: BA Film (Direction) from Karachi University, BA Cultural Anthropology/Philosophy from University College Freiburg, MA Global History from Humboldt University Berlin.

Brief Bio: Dara Shikoh is a Berlin-based Pakistani filmmaker and musician, his music is an exploration and expression of the space between language and emotion where feelings have not yet turned into logic yet. He is specially interested in creating soundscapes and soundtracks for films and video art. His connection to film(making) is an ongoing love affair. He is interested in telling stories about people, places, nature and the spirit.

Project Abstract:

1. Weight of the Sky (Filming): We hear a few voices engaging at the grassroots of Southern Pakistan's climate landscapes, and its challenges; A fisher, an activist, and a farmer. They tell us the problems and solutions, the way they see it. Weight of the Sky is an ongoing attempt to gather such perspectives in several different parts of the world to create a visual catalog of problems and solutions. The film, is on the nexus of anthropology, documentry and poetry, the interviews are combined with conversations with the river itself at an attempt to tap into the river’s subconsious and learn about its dreams and fears. Featuring poetry of Shaikh Ayaz and Bhitai.

1. Watayo (In Research): A collection of jokes and anecdotes by the 16th-century Sindhi faqeer and philosopher, narrated by the people of Sindh.
