Brief Bio:
Triparna Banerjee is a screenwriter and filmmaker, committed to bringing stories from fringes to the fore that appeal across borders.
Triparna's foray into professional screenwriting began as a scriptwriter for the renowned children's television series Sesame Street. Her first film as an Associate Producer 'Frozen' (2009), premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival and garnered recognition with over 30 festival selections and 18 awards, including 2 National Awards in India.
Her work has been acknowledged with selections at film events, like L'atelier Cinéfondation at the Cannes Film Festival 2012, HAF at the Hong Kong Film Festival 2015, and Film Independent's Global Media Makers LA residency Program 2019, supported by the US State Department's Bureau of Education and Cultural affairs. Her most recent work as a Writer and Impact producer, the documentary feature ‘From the Shadows’, has been awarded the reputed Hatched grant by Chicken & Egg Pictures, USA.
As a scriptwriter, Triparna is currently working on a web series and two feature films, while also developing her debut feature film as a director, which was selected at the Asian Project Market in 2021 at Busan International Film Festival. In addition to her filmmaking endeavours, she works as a visiting faculty for film schools and media institutes. Through her role, she empowers young minds to utilize the transformative potential of film, photography, and storytelling to drive change.
Project Abstract:
A feature film project inspired from a Bengali classic called The Drought written by Sarat Chandra Chatterjee. The story depicts the perpetual discrimination existing in our society, making it pertinent. This film is a retelling of the original story, with the same character in contemporary India.
Logline:
An adolescent girl faces adversity and discrimination as her father is shunned by the majority of the village, but she perseveres with resilience and hope, to overcome these challenges and thrive.
